THE 5-COUNT RINGETTE GOALIE AWARD

The 5-Count Ringette Goalie Award provides up to two awards in the amount of $250 each and are presented annually to registered players who are actively playing as a goalkeeper and the money is to be used for a unique opportunity that will benefit them as a goalie, their team, and/or ringette in general. The awards have been made possible through the support of Keely Brown, Heather Konkin and the program they co-own, 5-Count Ringette Goalie Instruction.

Application for a 5-Count Ringette Goalie Award can be made by ringette goalies who have been a goalkeeper for the past three years. Ringette Canada will not release award funds until proof that the athlete has been a goalkeeper for the past three years has been provided.

THE CARA BROWN RINGETTE SCHOLARSHIP

The Cara Brown Scholarship provides two (2) annual scholarships of $1,000 each towards post-secondary education for competitive ringette players at the AA level (or at the highest level offered in the applicant’s community) who are entering a Canadian university on a full-time basis for the first time and have demonstrated academic excellence combined with a strong commitment to the sport of ringette. Funding for the Cara Brown Ringette Scholarship is provided by Brown Economic Consulting Inc., which supports many community events and courses through sponsorship and donations.

Application for a Cara Brown Ringette Scholarship may be made by ringette players who:

• are registered with one of Ringette Canada’s provincial/territorial member associations and are actively playing ringette at the AA level (or at the highest level offered in the applicant’s community) during the current  playing season,
• will be entering a Canadian university on a full-time basis for the first time in the next  academic year,
• have achieved academic excellence (minimum B average or equivalent), and
• have demonstrated a strong commitment to the sport of ringette.

Applicants must be planning to attend a university located in Canada and be able to meet the institution’s admission standards.

AGNES JACKS SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS

A member of the Order of Canada, Agnes Jacks was the widow of Sam Jacks, who invented the sport of ringette in 1963 in North Bay, Ontario. While the sport lost Mr. Jacks' guiding hand through his untimely passing in 1975, the ringette community continued to benefit greatly from Agnes's dedicated and enthusiastic promotion of the sport both within Canada and around the world.

The Agnes Jacks Scholarship Awards program provides a number of scholarships of $1,000 each towards post-secondary education for ringette players, coaches and/or officials who demonstrate a strong commitment to the sport of ringette. Recipients receive a scholarship award certificate recognizing their achievements. Ringette Canada's Board of Directors determines the number of scholarships offered each year.

Application for an Agnes Jacks Scholarship Award may be made by:

A) Ringette players registered with one of Ringette Canada's provincial/territorial member associations,

B) NCCP-certified ringette coaches, and

C) Active on-ice ringette-certified officials.

Applicants must be enrolled full-time in a recognized post-secondary education institution for the next academic year.
Applicants must meet the admission standards of the educational institution specified, which must be a university, college or other educational institution located in Canada providing courses at a post-secondary school level.
Applicants must have actively participated in ringette as player, coach or on-ice official for at least five of the last seven years and must be registered in the current playing season.
Successful applicants will be those who have demonstrated sustained commitment to the sport of ringette through playing, coaching, officiating and other volunteer activities.

Ringette Canada will not release scholarship funds until proof of registration as a full-time student at a Canadian university for the next academic year has been provided. Scholarship funds must be applied to the academic year for which the scholarship was awarded. Ringette Canada is unable to grant requests to defer scholarships from one academic year to the next.

The Canadian Scholarship Trust Foundation

The Canadian Scholarship Trust Foundation supports access to post-secondary education (PSE) for all Canadians. We are passionate about higher learning and believe that finances should not be a barrier to accessing post-secondary education. 

In honour of notable members of the CST family, we are excited to provide $150,000 worth of bursaries (25 bursaries, each worth $6,000) to students facing financial barriers in order to help them access post-secondary education. The bursary can be used to cover tuition as well as school-related expenses such as books, supplies, or living expenses.  

The bursaries are intended for students who can demonstrated financial need, and whose financial need may make it difficult for them to continue their studies. Students must be the first generation in their family to attend post-secondary education (i.e. did not attend either college or university).

Eligibility Criteria

• Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or Protected Person in Canada
• Demonstrate financial need
• Have/will have completed high school level education (or equivalent, by Fall 2022
• Be the first generation in their family to attend post-secondary education

RED RIVER EXHIBITION FOUNDATION - Aerospace Scholarship

Three $1,000 Aerospace Industry Scholarships are available to be awarded, annually. The Red River Exhibition Foundation Inc. is accepting applications for two scholarships that are awarded annually to assist individuals who are pursuing a career in the aerospace industry.

The scholarships are awarded by the Red River Exhibition Association in memory of Bob Lang, a long time employee of the Association who began his career at Standard Aero in Winnipeg. The scholarships are administered by the Red River Exhibition Foundation Inc. and may be used for assistance with tuition fees, tools or learning aids in conjunction with their post secondary education or apprenticeship training in the aerospace industry.

• A Manitoba resident
• Actively participating in an aviation or aerospace program
• Continuing your education in aviation or aerospace fields

2022 Mayor’s Scholarship for Community Leadership

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS 

 Mayor Brian Bowman invites you to apply for the Mayor’s Scholarship for Community Leadership. This scholarship awards up to five (5) $1,000 scholarships to recognize students who have demonstrated consistent and outstanding dedication to solving a community problem or making their community a better place to live. The Mayor’s Scholarship rewards the achievements of Winnipeg’s young leaders and supports them to reach their educational and career goals. Community leadership can be demonstrated through activities that promote racial and social inclusion, drive reconciliation, encourage environmental stewardship, support and empower Winnipeg’s less fortunate, along with many other activities and initiatives that make Winnipeg a place we are all proud to call home.
The scholarships will be presented by Mayor Brian Bowman at City Hall. 

WHO IS ELIGIBLE:
o High school graduates with a minimum overall grade average of 70%                             
o Those entering their first year in post-secondary education on a full-time basis at a recognized college or university in the City of Winnipeg
o Those who have made a significant contribution to Winnipeg and demonstrated outstanding community leadership 

SUBMITTING AN APPLICATION:
Applications must be submitted using the application form enclosed and include three letters of reference to ensure it is considered by the selection panel. Please be sure to include accurate contact information for yourself and references as this information will be used for official correspondence.

The Winnipeg Humane Society’s 2022 Animal Welfare Scholarship

Founded in 1894, the Winnipeg Humane Society is one of Canada’s oldest and well-known animal welfare organizations. Each year we rescue, care for, medically treat and adopt over 10,000 animals in need. We are also one of the only Canadian SPCAs that educates Canadians on key animal welfare issues while also lobbying for the legislative change. A key part of our work involves inspiring youth and young adults to become active in making this world a kinder place for animals. As such, we are excited to launch a new scholarship opportunity, consisting of two honorariums in total, for June 2022.

One individual from each category (Indigenous applicants and non-Indigenous applicants) will receive $1,500 respectively, for the purpose of furthering their education or associated projects related to animal welfare.

Eligibility Criteria:

· All individuals aged between 15-18 years, and who demonstrate an outstanding effort in improving the welfare of non-companion animals, are encouraged to apply. This can include, but is not limited to: pursuing a secondary education relating to animal welfare, developing a community project that improves animal welfare and/or the environment, advocacy efforts towards key issue(s) affecting animals and/or the environment, and more.

· Applicants must be a resident of Manitoba, Canada.

· Applicants must not be a previous winner of this scholarship.

· Two references (non-family or friend) must be provided in the submission.

· A written submission (between 300-600 words) that outlines the applicant’s efforts in improving non-companion animal welfare, and how the funds will benefit the applicant if chosen. Please state in your submission which category you are applying under (Indigenous or non-Indigenous category).

· Agree to a subsequent follow-up to demonstrate how funds were utilized.

INDIGENOUS EDUCATION AWARDS

The Business Council of Manitoba represents the best of business leadership, working to make Manitoba an exciting place to live, work and invest. The Business Council recognizes the potential in our Indigenous community and offers financial support to Indigenous citizens who attend post-secondary institutions in our province through this award program.

The Business Council offers awards to assist with the cost of tuition, books and supplies during the academic year. Each award is $3000 for university and $2000 for college students. All applicants are eligible to reapply each year of their studies but may only receive the award three times

UofM GLASSEN ESSAY COMPETITION

Essay Contest for Manitoba Grade 11 & 12 Students

Each year, the UM Genre for Professional & Applied Ethics, the Faculty of Arts Department of Philosophy and The Glassen Endowment Fund sponsor the Glassen High School Ethics Essay Competition. 

Manitoba students in grades 11 and 12 are invited to participate. The winner of the best philosophical essay under 1,000 words receives a $1,000 award. 

The 2022 Glassen Ethics Essay Competition topic is: Are cryptocurrencies good for society?

UofM Career Choices Virtual Workshop

Career planning for prospective students considering the University of Manitoba.

Virtual career planning workshops are available for high school students who have applied or are planning to apply to UM, but who are unsure of what faculty or program might be a good fit for them. 

This workshop is a great opportunity to explore who you are: your interests, values, and favourite subjects and how they relate to the world of work. The goal of this session is to create a list of occupational ideas just for you. You will leave the session with next steps to learn more about yourself, occupations, and to make choices about your academic program.

UNITED WAY - YOUTH UNITED SCHOLARSHIP & GRANT: Deadline Quickly Approaching

The Youth Leaders in Action Scholarship celebrates the contributions of young community leaders in Winnipeg and encourages them to keep up the great work. There are four scholarships available for $500 per student. 

Scholarship recipients will be: 

• students under 24 years of age who are connected with a United Way Winnipeg - funded organizations
• have demonstrated leadership 
• need for financial support. 

The deadline for the scholarship is March 4th.  

Youth United continues to encourage youth to learn about our community and create positive social change in Winnipeg. The Youth United Grant supports student led projects focused around the Sustainable Development Goals that contribute to positive change in our community. Eligible groups can apply for up to $1000 in funding for their project. 

The deadline for this grant is March 18th.
