BMO Indigenous Leader of Tomorrow

The BMO Financial Group Indigenous Leader of Tomorrow scholarship program highlights exceptional Indigenous high school graduates who combine outstanding leadership potential with academic giftedness. Each scholarship is valued at $16,000, allocated over four years of study.

Three awards will be given out to Indigenous students across Canada entering any of the direct-entry programs at the University of Manitoba.

BMO Financial Group Indigenous Leader of Tomorrow Scholarships will be offered to students who:

1. are Indigenous (Status, Non-Status, Métis, Inuit); 
2. have achieved a high school average of at least 90 per cent calculated on the basis of results in (or equivalent courses across Canada):
   1. English 30S or Français 30S and Anglais 30S 
   2. Mathematics 30S (either pre-calculus 30S or applied 30S only) 
   3. the highest marks in three of Biology 30S, Chemistry 30S, Physics 30S, History 30S, Geography 30S, Computer Science 30s, or a language at the 30S level other than those accepted for (1.1) above; 
3. have demonstrated evidence of leadership qualities and future potential; 
4. have demonstrated evidence of a high level of communication skills; 
5. have a record of community involvement (e.g., school, local community, city-wide, regional, national, international); 
6. have demonstrated evidence of special abilities other than those shown by academic results (e.g., artistic, athletic, or linguistic skills, literary accomplishments); 
7. have completed a University of Manitoba application for admission by the December 1 deadline, including payment of application fee. 

Recipients will be required to present a minimum 90 per cent average based on those courses eligible for the University of Manitoba General Entrance Scholarships.

New application submission instructions for 2022/23:

• applicants must select which award they are applying for before submitting the application (i.e. BMO Leader of Tomorrow Scholarships or BMO Indigenous Leader of Tomorrow Scholarships);
• references from the principal, counsellor/teacher and community member must be received by the December 1st deadline date.

TD Scholarships for Community Leadership

 

What are the TD Scholarships for Community Leadership?

The TD Scholarship for Community Leadership awards students up to $70,000 for college or university (up to $10,000 for tuition per year, $7,500 a year for living expenses) for 4 years. It’s open to students across Canada who:

• Have demonstrated community leadership
• Are in final year of high school 
• Have a minimum overall grade average of 75% in their most recently completed school year

1. Write a 600-word essay describing your community leadership experience.

• Why you got involved
• How your involvement shows initiative and innovation
• The ways your efforts have strengthened others
• How long you have been involved
• What you think the long-term impact will be
• How your community has affected you

2. Tell us about the other great things you’re doing. Include a brief description of the range of your other community activities with:

• A letter of recommendation from your school
• Two letters of support from community groups 
• Your academic transcript

3. If you’re really trying to impress, you also have the option of including:

• A 250-word essay describing your family and personal life, for example your family’s employment or economic situation
• A 250-word essay about your life experiences if you have taken a year or more away from high school or CEGEP

The Cityline Scholarship for BIPOC Women

 

he Cityline Scholarship for BIPOC Women aims to provide access to post-secondary education and reward youth who demonstrate financial need and want to pursue a career in Media studies.

One entrance scholarship will be available in 2021, valued at $5,000 CAD. Students across Canada can enter, except for residents of Quebec and employees of Rogers Sports and Media. The scholarship is not renewable. The scholarship will also include a one-on-one mentorship with Cityline host Tracy Moore.

To be considered: 

• Students who will commence their post-secondary studies in September 2021 are eligible.
• Students may have taken time off between graduation from high school and commencement of their university or college studies; however, during this period students must not have undertaken any post-secondary courses.
• The Cityline Scholarship for BIPOC Women will not grant entrance scholarships to the following institutions/programs: Graduate programs (for example, Master’s degrees, PHD programs, etc.); Colleges and universities outside of Canada.
• By entering an application into the Cityline Scholarship for BIPOC Women the winner agrees to be available for a mandatory interview on Cityline (Citytv at 10AM EST), speaking with Tracy Moore. The winner’s video entry will also be featured on Cityline.
• Selection is based on each applicant’s completed application, which must be accompanied with one video of a maximum of 2-3 minutes long.

Video entry instructions:

• The video essay must contain ONE of the following questions:
  • Where do I see myself in 10 years?
  • When you look at Canada today, are there any problems or issues you would like to seek to improve to help build a better future for generations to come? What issue would you choose and how would you approach the problem?
  • What is one challenge you have overcome, and how did it help you grow?

• The selection committee would like to see YOU in the video, so please limit your use of cartoons and animations.
• Post your video on YouTube and provide the link in the online application. Please ensure that your video is set to Public (in your Privacy Settings on YouTube). No copyrighted music or images. Please have fun with your video!
• Please note: Applicants grant Rogers Sports & Media the right to use their names and video submissions for program publicity, marketing and promotional purposes in all media, including television broadcast and digital.

MHSAA Scholarship

 Manitoba Foundation for Sports Scholarship - MFFS

A program administered by Sport Manitoba, established to support young athletes of Sport Manitoba's partners who continue to participate in amateur sport while pursuing a post-secondary education on a full-time basis. The scholarships are awarded to graduating high school students entering a post-secondary institution and to students in their second or subsequent year in a post-secondary institution.

Manitoba Hydro Awards

Manitoba Hydro supports the youth of Manitoba in pursuit of academic excellence.  Within our Educational Funding Program are specific awards available to Indigenous Students in Grades 10 - 12. To be considered, students must include all required documentation depending on the award they are applying or being nominated for.  This may include a resume and cover letter, their final transcript and proof of Indigenous ancestry.

Premier's Healthy Living Scholarship for Youth

The Premier's Healthy Living Scholarship for Youth recognizes the achievements for young Manitobans who are positive role models for other children and youth in promoting healthy lifestyles. 

Up to 10 of the most outstanding applicants from across Manitoba will be selected to receive a $1000 scholarship. One nomination will be accepted per high school. 

ELIGIBILITY 

Students must be registered in Grade 12, and are set to graduate in the year in which the nomination is made and are admitted to, and register full-time in the first year of study in any faculty of school at the University of Manitoba. Qualifying students will have achieved a minimum entering average of 75% on those courses used for admission. Students must also have made an outstanding healthy living contribution to their school and/or community in one of the specified areas of achievement during their high school experience. 

SELECTION CRITERIA 

The application and statement will be assessed based on the following criteria: 

• The extent of the applicant’s healthy living contributions in their school and/or community.
• The degree to which the applicant’s contributions fall into one or more of the specified healthy living areas of achievement.
• The impact of the applicant’s contributions in their school and/or community.
• The quality of response to the statement question

CAPSLE Bursary Award

The Canadian Association for the Practical Study of Law in Education (“CAPSLE”) established a bursary to provide financial assistance to students entering post-secondary Education and/or Law programs. One $1,000 bursary is available on the terms set out below.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

The following are the eligibility criteria for the Bursary:

• The applicant must have been accepted to a Canadian university program in a recognized Faculty of Education and/or Faculty of Law in the 2021/22 academic year;
  
  
• Priority will be given to applicants who identify as a member of a group that is under-represented in Education and/or Law.

APPLICATION PROCESS

The applicant must provide the following documents in support of a Bursary application:

• Documentary proof that the applicant is accepted to a program at a recognized Faculty of Education and/or Law at a Canadian university in the 2021/2022 academic year;
  
  
• A short essay, up to 500 words, describing how the applicant meets the eligibility criteria and why the applicant is studying Education and/or Law, including thoughtful commentary on the nexus between Education and Law; and
  

Professionally formatted resume, including leadership experience applicable to intended area(s) of study.

It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure that all documents are consolidated into a single PDF file and e-mailed to info@capsle.ca no later than May 31, 2021.

CAPSLE’s Board of Directors, or a committee thereof, will evaluate the applications and select an applicant that best meets the eligibility criteria and terms of the Bursary.

The successful applicant will be advised of the CAPSLE Board’s decision with respect to the Bursary by no later than September 30, 2021.

The successful applicant will be provided with the Bursary funds on a date between September 30, 2021 and December 31, 2021, conditional upon providing proof of tuition paid equal to or greater than $1,000 by no later than December 31, 2021.  The successful applicant agrees to return the Bursary funds to CAPSLE if the applicant discontinues the intended course of study for any reason during the 2021/22 academic year.

By submitting an application, an applicant agrees to the terms of the Bursary, and consents to:

• publication of his/her name and essay, or portions thereof, in CAPSLE publications, including CAPSLE’s website; and

• receive information related to CAPSLE electronically, which consent may be withdrawn at any time  by contacting info@capsle.ca.

MARK & DOROTHY DANZKER SCHOLARSHIP FOR EXCELLENCE

Together with the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba, Folklorama is pleased to present the Mark & Dorothy Danzker Scholarship for Excellence, an annual award of excellence for ethno-cultural heritage preservation. The Scholarship honours the memory of philanthropist and former Winnipeg city councillor Mark Danzker and his wife, Dorothy.

SCHOLARSHIP OVERVIEW
The scholarships include:

• Eight (8) post-secondary scholarships of $1,000 each
• The scholarships will be awarded in September 2021.

ELIGIBILITY
To be eligible for a $1,000 scholarship, the applicant must:

• Be accepted to or be currently enrolled in a university, college or other recognized post-secondary institution within Canada
• Be 17 to 25 years of age
• Be a resident of Manitoba

CRITERIA FOR SELECTION
Demonstrate an active involvement in preserving cultural heritage. This may be done through volunteer work or employment within Canada. It may involve any cultural heritage.

Volunteer in a cultural activity in the general community.

Perform well academically with an average of 75% (3.0 GPA) or better

ERA SCHOLARSHIP

                                ERA’s 2nd Scholarship Competition – Win up to $10,000                                                                      

Are you eligible?

Must be a full -time/part-time student in Canada. For those participants which are outside our operating areas (Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatoon, Winnipeg, Toronto, and Montreal) there will be adjusted requirements. See FAQ below.

Why is ERA holding this competition?

ERA likes to get the community involved in many ways throughout the year. This competition gives students the opportunity to gain experience, build their resume, and if they are motivated enough to win this scholarship, would be a great help financially with schooling.

What are we looking for?

We need you to come up with a marketing plan and host an e-waste collection event in your area. You will manage every detail of this event from the planning and promoting to the execution! We want to see how creative students can get with marketing the event and reaching out to your community and local businesses to ensure the event is well attended. How will you implement your ideas to raise awareness and get your networks involved? After you have followed through with the event, the team at ERA will evaluate your work after the deadline and pick the winner!
